  • Malinalli LopezMalinalli López started her position as a Trustee on the Windsor School Board in December of 2020. She is passionate about building equity and is excited about creating opportunities for youth in K-12, especially bilingual students. Born in Guanajuato Mexico, she immigrated with her parents to Sonoma County when she was two years old. As a student who began her educational career as a monolingual Spanish speaker, Malinalli understands the deep trauma that can come with not speaking the dominant language and assimilating to a new cultural environment. She believes in bringing a deep sense of creativity, compassion, and leadership in creating lasting community partnerships and in amplifying the most marginalized voices.

Malinalli grew up in Windsor and has a daughter who attends Cali Calmécac and who will become a Windsor High School student this year in 2021. Malinalli received her BA degree from UC Berkeley in Chicano Studies and an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. As the CEO of her company XQL MEDIA, she produces dramatic films, documentaries, and commercial video. Through her work, her vision is to produce films that shine a light on issues of social justice and also to train the next generation of filmmakers. When she is not producing films, she teaches in the American Multicultural Studies and Chicano Latino Studies Departments at Sonoma State University and also teaches small business workshops for the Napa-Sonoma Small Business Development Center. Because she is passionate about igniting creativity in our community she serves as the Chair of the Town of Windsor’s Public Art Advisory Commission. In 2018 she received the Jackie Hoffner Award from the Alexander Valley Film Society for her work combining film and social justice.
